Innovations that may solve food shortages: Public Forum Video
Photosynthesis is arguably the most important biological process on Earth; it produces the air we breathe and the food we eat. As if that was not enough, recent innovations in photosynthesis research have opened a window to its huge potential to address the biggest challenge of this century: to solve expected food shortages for the growing world population.
This forum discussed how innovations and research collaborations in photosynthesis research could be an important part of the solution to achieve global food security. It also asked how the new ARC Centre of Excellence for Translational Photosynthesis plans to take scientific discoveries from the lab and translate them to useful outcomes in the field, as its name promises to deliver.
The panel consisted of experts in photosynthesis research and government representatives including:
Professor Aidan Byrne, CEO Australian Research Council
Professor Ian Chubb, Australia’s Chief Scientist
Professor Murray Badger, Director ARC Centre of Excellence for Translational Photosynthesis
Professor John Evans, Centre Investigator ARC Centre of Excellence for Translational Photosynthesis
Presentations were followed by Q&A discussion.
